Game

Game-2
"GAME" 26"x46" by Nina Benedetto © 2010

Life can be seen as a game - but which game? Underneath a checkerboard and viewed through elephant shaped peek holes is "Chutes and Ladders," a game originated in India as "Snakes and Ladders" for the moral instruction of children.   The clear karmic premise: Good deeds get you up the ladder of success, negative deeds send you back down. In this 1950's version, sexism and racism are undisguised.  The lower section has boomerangs - which are both a toy and a weapon. And in "rock, paper, scissors" - a game of bewildering ironic chance - winning is based on physical attributes and their limitations.  The "early bird" has bitten off more than it knows or is asking for. If only it- and we- had a cross-sectional view of life's hidden aspects!
