Truth Takes the Shape of a Woman

Truth Takes the Shape of a Woman
24"x48" by Nina Benedetto © 2010

Women have been used in imagery to depict Liberty and Justice, but I prefer another symbolic interpretation, as the personification of Truth.   Women carry within themselves the potential to bring new life into the world, and with it, all new possibilities, as truth is always being reborn in our consciousness.

Here, the hemlock is the poison Socrates agrees to drink because he would not recant his truths, and the Hindu figure of Kali depicts the supreme “truth-sayer” aspect by chopping off the head of Maya, the source of illusion and desire.
